Frequently Asked Questions

About the Glasses

Do they work in the rain?

Yes. Ray-Ban Meta are IPX4 rated — they handle splashes and light rain. Don't submerge them.

How long does the battery last?

4–6 hours of active use. The charging case gives about 8 additional full charges. Charge the glasses during lunch.

Do they work in Dutch?

Partially. Meta AI responds in Dutch if you ask in Dutch, but recognition quality is better in English. Setting your phone language to English improves results.

Can they replace a white cane or guide dog?

No. Smart glasses help you see and understand your surroundings, but they don't detect obstacles at ground level or guide you physically.

Do I need a Meta / Facebook account?

Yes. A Meta account is required to set up and use the glasses. You can create one without using Facebook or Instagram.

How far can the camera see?

Text reading works best within 1 meter. Scene description works for the entire field of view, similar to what you'd see naturally.

Can I wear them over my own glasses?

Not directly. Ray-Ban Meta are full frames. Prescription lens inserts are available through compatible opticians.

Do they record video of other people?

Only when you deliberately press the capture button. A white privacy LED turns on during recording. They are not designed for continuous recording.

Does Meta AI work offline?

No. Meta AI requires an internet connection through your phone. Without internet, voice commands, music, and calls still work.

Can someone else see what I see?

Only through Be My Eyes (you initiate the call) or if you manually share a photo or video. Nobody can remotely access your camera.

How do I clean them?

Use the included lens cloth. Don't use water on the speakers. Wipe the camera lens regularly for clear AI vision.

Can I use them while cycling?

Technically yes, but using AI vision while cycling is dangerous. Use for music and navigation audio only.

Can I use them with a cochlear implant?

Yes, but the glasses temples and the processor sit in the same space behind the ear. Test the physical fit before purchasing. Adjust nose pads and temple bend to reduce pressure.

Troubleshooting

If something isn't working, try these fixes before contacting support.

Meta AI doesn't respond
  1. Check that your phone has an internet connection
  2. Make sure Bluetooth is connected (LED on the inside of the glasses)
  3. Restart the glasses: hold the power button for 5 seconds
  4. Open the Meta AI app and check for firmware updates
Glasses won't pair with my phone
  1. Make sure Bluetooth is on
  2. Put glasses in the case, close it, wait 10 seconds, take them out
  3. In the Meta AI app, tap "Set up new glasses"
  4. If still stuck, reset the glasses: hold button for 15 seconds until LED flashes
AI descriptions are poor quality
  • Improve lighting — AI works much better in well-lit environments
  • Turn your head directly toward the subject
  • Switch to English for better AI recognition
  • Move closer to the object (within 1 meter for text)
Battery drains too fast
  • Turn off "Hey Meta" wake word when not using AI features
  • Keep glasses in the case when not wearing them
  • Check for a firmware update in the Meta AI app
  • A full charge takes about 1 hour
"Hey Siri" or "Hey Google" doesn't hear me
  • Your phone is too far away — keep it in a breast pocket
  • Check that Siri is enabled on the lock screen
  • Check that Google Assistant is enabled on the lock screen
  • Make sure the phone isn't in Do Not Disturb / Focus mode
Notifications aren't read aloud
  • iPhone: check Settings → Accessibility → Siri → Announce Notifications is ON
  • Android: check TalkBack → Settings → Read notifications aloud
  • Make sure the specific app is enabled for notification reading
Glasses feel uncomfortable
  • Adjust the nose pads for a looser or tighter fit
  • If wearing a cochlear implant processor, position the temple arm in front of the processor
  • Try different frame styles — Ray-Ban Meta comes in Wayfarer and other shapes
